This course adopts a blended learning approach, incorporating flipped learning techniques. Candidates will be guided to adapt materials and design tasks for their specified group of young learners to engage with, and subsequently they will deliver lessons structured to raise motivation, enhance student comprehension and interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The primary focus of this course will be on the theoretical foundations and best practices in teaching young learners, alongside the development of effective communication skills in English. Participants will gain proficiency in employing English language and will learn to create motivating tasks and activities and tailor materials to facilitate the learning process for young students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course comprises two modules, with an optional, unassessed third module available for an additional fee. This third module offers candidates the opportunity to be observed while implementing their materials and tasks in a classroom setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Candidates have the flexibility to complete all three modules consecutively or to take breaks between them. Course content will be delivered through a cyclical input approach, involving interactive demonstrations in the first module. This approach allows for collaborative learning, reflection, and the application of course concepts to candidates&#8217; teaching of English and teaching materials. (face to face or synchronous online)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>* <\/strong>Definition of Young Learners: Age 6-11 (primary) and 12 &#8211; 18 (secondary)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Module 2: Materials and Curriculum for Young Learners (70 hours)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Writing Tasks (70 hrs) Small Group Zoom meetings at agreed times with allocated tutors to discuss the selection and adaptation of materials suitable for young learners, curriculum development, and task design aligned with age-appropriate content and learning objectives. Candidates will also explore the broader context of teaching young learners, including curriculum integration.<br>Candidates then implement their selected materials and designed tasks in a young learner classroom or online teaching environment. Following the classroom experience, candidates complete four tasks for Assessment, which includes a rationale for material choices, an evaluation of strengths and weaknesses in task design, and suggestions for improving instructional practices for young learners.<br>Candidates then teach a class using their adapted materials and designed tasks. Each candidate portfolio consists of 4 written assignments of approximately 750 words each :<br><strong>Assignment 1:<\/strong> Candidates produce an evaluation of a published or online teaching\/training resource<br><strong>Assignment 2: <\/strong>Candidates produce a rationale for a resource they have adapted to be suitable for at least 15 minutes\u2019 teaching\/training for a specified learner\/learner group<br><strong>Assignment 3: <\/strong>Candidates produce a rationale for an original resource they have created that is suitable for at least 15 minutes\u2019 teaching\/training for a specified learner\/learner group<br><strong>Assignment 4: <\/strong>Candidates write a reflection on the use of either the adapted resource (from task 2) or the original resource (from task 3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Portfolios are marked using Trinity CertPT criteria. On successful completion of the Portfolio, candidates are awarded the Trinity CertPT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Module 3: Classroom Practice and Observations (optional and unassessed)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Candidates facilitate lessons for young learners using their adapted materials, planning, approaches and techniques explored in Module 1 and 2 and submit one recorded lesson for observation and feedback.
