{"id":1118,"date":"2022-03-01T09:15:07","date_gmt":"2022-03-01T09:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theelthub.com\/?page_id=1118"},"modified":"2022-03-09T13:26:08","modified_gmt":"2022-03-09T13:26:08","slug":"certp-certificate-for-practising-teachers-communicative-methods-and-materials-design","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.theelthub.com\/fr\/certp-2\/certp-certificate-for-practising-teachers-communicative-methods-and-materials-design\/","title":{"rendered":"CertP &#8211; Certificate for Practising Teachers: Communicative Methods and Materials Design"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The \u2018Certificate for Practising Teachers: Communicative Methods and Materials Design\u2019 course is primarily designed to fill in both theoretical and practical gaps in knowledge for in-service language teachers working with (young) adults and is suitable for those teaching in either monolingual or multilingual environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>As most trainees we work with are generally quite experienced, we feel that they are by and large familiar with the principles of the Communicative Approach and will be joining the course in search of a deeper and narrower focus. Hence, while we shall go over the current thinking within ELT and the nature of the Communicative approach, the main focus of the course will be placed specifically on materials design, with some forays into course design. Planning the course, we draw on literature on the Communicative approach and other specifically ELT topics, but also on general ID (instructional design) and LX (learner experience design) materials.<br>We feel that this course will be useful in responding to the challenges that ELT teachers face nowadays:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The need to be flexible about where and how to teach, for example having to deliver traditional face to face courses in the online format, adapting activities to Zoom<\/li><li>The need to selecting apps and resources from a long list of similar products (Miro or Jamboard? Quizlet or Testmoz?) and use the selected resources in a meaningful and methodologically sound way<\/li><li>The increasing reluctance of students to subscribe to generic, one-size-fits-all courses and the desire for customised solutions<\/li><li>Students wanting to be offered more learning formats, such as the combination of 1:1 teaching on demand and independent study using pre-selected materials<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>La formation &#8216;Certificate for Practising Teachers : Communicative Methods and Material Design&#8217; est con\u00e7ue pour combler les lacunes th\u00e9oriques et pratiques des enseignants d&#8217;anglais en exercice travaillant avec des adultes ou adolescents, qu&#8217;ils travaillent dans un environnement monolingue ou multilingue. Les stagiaires avec lesquels nous travaillons \u00e9tant en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral assez exp\u00e9riment\u00e9s, nous consid\u00e9rons qu&#8217;ils sont plus ou moins familiers des principes de l&#8217;approche communicationnelle et s&#8217;inscrivent \u00e0 la formation en qu\u00eate de r\u00e9ponses plus pr\u00e9cises. Ainsi, m\u00eame si les r\u00e9flexions actuelles relatives \u00e0 l&#8217;enseignement de l&#8217;anglais et la nature de l&#8217;approche communicationnelle sont \u00e9voqu\u00e9es, cette formation met l&#8217;accent sp\u00e9cifiquement sur la conception de supports p\u00e9dagogiques, avec quelques d\u00e9tours par la conception de s\u00e9quences p\u00e9dagogiques. En concevant des s\u00e9quences, nous \u00e9voquons la litt\u00e9rature relative \u00e0 l&#8217;approche communicationnelle ainsi que d&#8217;autres sujets sp\u00e9cifiques \u00e0 l&#8217;enseignement de l&#8217;anglais, mais aussi plus g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement l&#8217;ing\u00e9nierie p\u00e9dagogique et la prise en compte de l&#8217;exp\u00e9rience de l&#8217;apprenant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Nous pensons que cette formation aidera grandement \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre aux d\u00e9fis auxquels font face les enseignants d&#8217;anglais d&#8217;aujourd&#8217;hui :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Le besoin de flexibilit\u00e9 quand aux lieux et fa\u00e7ons d&#8217;enseigner, comme par exemple r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la contrainte d&#8217;adapter un cours traditionnel en pr\u00e9sentiel au format en ligne, en adaptant les activit\u00e9s \u00e0 Zoom.<\/li><li>Le besoin de s\u00e9lectionner des applications et ressources \u00e0 partir d&#8217;une longue liste de produits similaires (Miro ou Jamboard ? Quizlet ou Testmoz?) et de les utiliser de fa\u00e7on productive et m\u00e9thodologiquement coh\u00e9rente.<\/li><li>Le rejet de plus en plus fr\u00e9quent de la part des \u00e9tudiants de cours g\u00e9n\u00e9riques &#8216;pr\u00eat \u00e0 porter&#8217; et l&#8217;envie de trouver des solutions sur mesure.<\/li><li>Le souhait des \u00e9tudiants d&#8217;avoir acc\u00e8s \u00e0 plus de formats d&#8217;apprentissage, par exemple, une combinaison de cours particuliers \u00e0 la demande et de travail individuel en utilisant des supports pr\u00e9-s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course description<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Duration and proposed frequency:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>20 x online sessions: 30 hours of content (Two sessions a week over Ten weeks).<br>All assessment completed during the online component course. Referrals possible by distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course recaps the competencies essential for a well-functioning communicative language classroom (such as approaches to presenting language and to practising language skills, error correction and feedback, ways of scaffolding the learning process, establishing rapport and working with the students\u2019 motivation etc).<br>We also go one step further to provide inputs and workshops on designing materials for systems and skills work, exposing the learners to the variety of materials a modern teacher can be expected to create (in-class vs independent study materials, speaking tasks, listening scripts and reading texts, tests).<br>We also zero in on adapting traditional task formats to online teaching, as this is likely to remain essential in the future. To finalise this track, we move from writing individual materials to designing sequences of lessons and generally to the fundamentals of course design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the materials design workshops takes the form of inputs from the tutor and individual and group discussions, the methodology and teaching related workshops employs practical input as much as possible, supported by guided discovery and reflection tasks, making for a varied and engaging course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course is supported by a platform: Schoology, which includes recordings of lessons for the trainees to watch and draw inspiration from, examples of well-designed materials, and an archive of recommended blogs and articles related to the ELT classroom and to materials design, partly as extra resources and partly set as pre-session reading. Setting pre-session reading and tasks scaffold the sessions and make them even \u2018meatier\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The assessments on the course are flexible and allow the participants to explore solutions to the challenges and conundrums of their own teaching contexts and experiences, and provide ample room for reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of the course, the participants become both more knowledgeable and more reflective as practitioners and are more inspired and better equipped to create the materials and courses their learners need.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Description de la formation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dur\u00e9e et fr\u00e9quence propos\u00e9es :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>20 sessions en ligne : 30 heures de contenu (deux sessions par semaine sur dix semaines). Conseils possibles \u00e0 distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La formation revient sur les comp\u00e9tences essentielles au bon fonctionnement d&#8217;une classe de langue communicative (comme les diff\u00e9rentes approches de la pr\u00e9sentation linguistique et de la pratique des comp\u00e9tences langagi\u00e8res, la correction d&#8217;erreurs et les retours, les fa\u00e7ons d&#8217;\u00e9tayer le processus d&#8217;apprentissage, l&#8217;\u00e9tablissement d&#8217;une relation avec les \u00e9l\u00e8ves et le travail sur leur motivation, etc).<br>Nous allons aussi plus loin en fournissant des apports th\u00e9oriques et des ateliers sur la conception de supports pour le travail sur les syst\u00e8mes et comp\u00e9tences, l&#8217;exposition des apprenants \u00e0 la grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de supports qu&#8217;un enseignant moderne est suscerptible de cr\u00e9er (supports utilis\u00e9s en classe contre supports de travail autonome, t\u00e2ches d&#8217;expression orale, scripts de compr\u00e9hension orale, textes de compr\u00e9hension \u00e9crite, tests).<br>Nous nous concentrons aussi sur l&#8217;adaptation de formats de t\u00e2ches traditionnels \u00e0 l&#8217;enseignement en ligne, puisque cela restera sans doute essentiel \u00e0 l&#8217;avenir. Pour continuer sur cette voie, nous passons de la cr\u00e9ation de supports individuels \u00e0 la conception de s\u00e9quences p\u00e9dagogiques et plus g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement aux fondamentaux de la conception de cours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alors que les ateliers de conception de supports prennent la forme d&#8217;apports th\u00e9oriques de la part des tuteurs et de discussions individuelles ou en groupe, les ateliers relatifs \u00e0 la m\u00e9thodologie et \u00e0 la p\u00e9dagogie se basent autant que possible sur des apports pratiques, appuy\u00e9s par des t\u00e2ches de d\u00e9couverte guid\u00e9e et de r\u00e9flexion, de fa\u00e7on \u00e0 rendre la formation plus vari\u00e9e et stimulante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le cours est compl\u00e9t\u00e9 d&#8217;une plateforme, Schoology, qui comporte des vid\u00e9os de le\u00e7ons que les stagiaires peuvent visionner pour s&#8217;en inspirer, des exemples de supports bien con\u00e7us et une liste de blogs et d&#8217;articles relatifs \u00e0 la classe d&#8217;ELT et \u00e0 la conception de supports pouvant en partie servir de ressources suppl\u00e9mentaires et en partie destin\u00e9s \u00e0 \u00eatre lus en amont de chaque session. It is ideally suited to these teachers who are graduates of our CELTA and CertTESOL programmes, and also practising teachers who wish to develop their understanding of the principles behind materials development, and their competence in developing materials to best suit their learner needs . All teachers will have either&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>an initial teaching qualification (at degree level and or Trinity Cert TESOL or equivalent) and one year\u2019s teaching experience; and\/or<\/li><li>a minimum of two years\u2019 teaching experience.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Admissions Process :<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Admission is on a rolling basis.
